Volunteering by The Numbers

What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.

– Aristotle

Volunteering stats

Volunteers have a way of growing into important members of the hospice team, no matter where they serve. Some give a few hours of time a month and others much more, but each volunteer is a gift to our patients and their families.

About 60 percent of hospice volunteers help with direct patient or family care. That care can be as simple as sitting with a patient or running family errands. About 20 percent of volunteers provide office work and another 20 percent provide general program support.

A 2014 survey reported that volunteers averaged about 46 hours of service per year.

Hospice volunteers

Listening to a life story or reading a patient’s favorite book are simple acts of kindness that may offer solace to those nearing the end of life. When you bring a heart to serve, we can match your schedule and talents to opportunities.
