Celebrating Volunteer Month at Compassus: Caroline Quadrado

Caroline volunteer

April is Volunteer Month, a special time to honor the selfless individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making a difference. At Compassus, our volunteers are the heart of our hospice programs, enriching the lives of patients and their families with their compassion and dedication.

This month, we are proud to spotlight Caroline Quadrado, a remarkable volunteer from our Davenport, Iowa hospice program. New to the US, Caroline joined the Davenport team in 2023, bringing with her a relentless passion for helping our clients. Despite English being her second language—a skill she continuously strives to improve—her ability to connect with and inspire the patients she serves is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Caroline’s impact on our patients and staff has been profound. Our nurses have shared touching anecdotes about her interactions with patients, highlighting moments of joy and engagement that are truly heartwarming:

  • “Caroline turned some Elvis on her phone, and Sharon was couch dancing, smiling, and very engaged with her. It was wonderful to watch!”
  • “He was in a good mood, and volunteer Caroline was able to get him to say some words today also! Can we duplicate her? She is amazing!!!”

These stories exemplify the difference Caroline makes every day, embodying our mission to support not only the physical but also the emotional and spiritual well-being of our patients.

A bit about Caroline: At 36, originally from Brazil and a psychologist by training, she has always been driven by a love for people and their stories. Her background in People Development in Brazil involved working on impactful projects in large and medium-sized companies. An enthusiast of the arts, Caroline enjoys painting and pottery, now enhanced by her new oven.

Caroline’s move to the USA in July 2022 for her husband’s job marked a new chapter for her and her family, including their three dogs. This transition sparked a profound change in her conception of life, reinforcing her belief that there are no barriers she cannot overcome in the land of opportunity. Volunteering at Compassus has ignited a new passion for Caroline—caring for people—and she aspires to become a social worker.

Caroline’s story is a testament to the transformative power of volunteer work, not only for those served but also for the volunteers themselves. As we celebrate Volunteer Month, Compassus invites you to learn more about the impact of our volunteers and perhaps consider joining our team.
