Finding Meaning Again after Loss

Finding Meaning Again after Loss

volunteer story james
Compassus volunteer James May (l.) presenting veteran patient James Reynolds (r.) with a certificate of appreciation on Veterans Day.

Compassus hospice volunteer James “Joe” May was married to the love of his life for 65 years. Both Joe and his wife were active educators who enjoyed the outdoors, family and travel.

Joe struggled with grief and finding purpose again after losing his wife. Sometime later, his family suggested he find something that he would enjoy doing. We are sure glad they did!

Joe has been a volunteer at the Exeter Center in Exeter, NH, for over six years. He provides multiple residents with the conversation and companionship they need and deserve.

Joe is dependable, kind, respectful and truly caring, often engaging with others in the residence. He exemplifies the Care for who I am culture at Compassus, improving lives with each visit he makes.
