House of the Dove by Compassus Resumes General Inpatient Hospice Services

MARSHFIELD, Wisc. House of the Dove by Compassus, an inpatient hospice serving Marshfield, Wisconsin, and the surrounding area, is operating at full capacity once again. In addition to routine and respite hospice care, House of the Dove has resumed round-the-clock General Inpatient Care (GIP) to meet the needs of higher acuity patients.

House of the Dove provides high-quality and compassionate hospice care to improve the quality of life for patients facing a life-limiting illness, along with routine and respite care to cater to patients’ individualized needs. GIP hospice care at House of the Dove is designed to provide continuous treatment for patients experiencing complex symptoms related to a life-limiting illness that cannot be managed at home.

Hospice care is a type of specialized medical care provided to individuals who have a terminal illness or life-limiting condition. The primary focus of hospice care is to enhance the quality of life for patients in their final stages of illness, while also providing support and comfort to their families. While hospice care can be provided in different settings, including the patient’s own home, the choice of setting depends on the patient and family’s preferences, as well as the level of care and support required.

Some patients and families may opt for hospice care at a facility, such as House of the Dove, to benefit from comprehensive symptom management, essential medical equipment, family support, caregiver respite and access to emergency care services.

House of Dove’s Care team

House of the Dove’s supportive care team, which consists of physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers, works together to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Each of its private suites offers a tranquil environment where patients are comforted from distressing symptoms and families receive emotional and spiritual support. The unit is open to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The House of the Dove was built by this community to serve the end-of-life needs of Marshfield residents,” said Dawn Leatherberry, Compassus hospice area executive of clinical operations. “Our team is proud to elevate the level of care at House of the Dove in a way that will not only provide the best care for end-of-life needs but also include acute symptom management. We have renewed our commitment to this community and look forward to caring for every member should the need for hospice care arise.”

A stay in the inpatient unit is generally short-term, with most people wishing to return to the comfort of their home. For patients who may be too unstable to return home, House of the Dove’s peaceful inpatient rooms can be a place of safety and solace for families during the final stage of life.
