At Compassus, we believe hospice care is about helping patients live fully, and one of our patients at Providence at Home with Compassus is doing just that in an extraordinary way. Pam Harter, who entered hospice care in 2025 after being diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, is working toward becoming the first hospice patient to travel to space. Along the way, she’s using her journey to raise awareness and challenge common misconceptions about hospice care.
With the support of her Compassus care team in Napa, California, Harter is continuing to pursue meaningful goals, remain outside of the hospital and focus on what matters most to her. Her story is a powerful reminder that hospice care is not about giving up, it’s about empowering patients to live with purpose, comfort and dignity.
