Position Summary

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for applying the rules and regulations of state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies.

Position Specific Responsibilities

Processes multi-company weekly payroll for hourly and salaried colleagues accurately, compliantly and timely.
Calculates wages, deductions and withholdings, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
Audits employee changes entered into HRIS system and processes pay items such as retro pay, PTO payouts and terminations.
Ensures compliance with company policy and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Prepares and distributes payroll reports to management as needed.
Troubleshoots timekeeping system issues, responds to payroll inquiries, and helps to resolve payroll discrepancies.
Stays up to date with changes in payroll regulations and laws.
Adheres to payroll procedures and controls.
Directs compilation and preparation of other payroll data such as Wellness and Mileage for import into Payroll system.
Inputs Third Party Sick Pay payments into Payroll System monthly, and annually compares vendor report totals to W-2 totals.
Keys payroll deduction corrections.
Audits Payroll reports for accuracy, prior to completing payroll.
Assists with audits (collecting and organizing supporting documentation).
Gathers garnishment documents and submits to Third Party Vendor of Garnishment for processing.
Processes Verifications of Employment.
Adheres to work procedures, schedules and workflows.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in payroll strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces integrated healthcare at home philosophy. Strong organization skills. Must be a team player who is willing to learn and grow in this position.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification designation preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
