As August marks National Grief Awareness Month and Compassus continues celebrating our 20th anniversary, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the ways our hospice teams embody our core values. This month, we highlightโฏIntegrity, a principle that drives our care and connects us to the heart of what we do.
Among those who live this value every day is Bereavement Coordinator Dawn Thomas of the Paramus, New Jersey hospice team. Dawnโs extraordinary dedication, expertise and commitment to supporting those who are grieving make her a truly exceptional member of the Compassus family.
Dawn brings a wealth of experience to her role. A highly tenured team member, she has become an invaluable resource not only for her local program but for teams nationwide, offering guidance and support to colleagues near and far. It is no exaggeration to say she has touched the lives of hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of individuals through her work.
What sets her apart is the compassion she brings to each interaction. Whether sheโs walking alongside bereaved families through their journey or supporting her team, Dawnโs empathy shines. She does so with dignity and clinical excellence, setting a standard to which bereavement coordinators across the organization can aspire.
Dawnโs commitment to integrity is evident in her desire to continue expanding her knowledge and expertise. Currently preparing for a certification that will enable her to support other service lines within Compassus, she is constantly finding new ways to serve more people in meaningful ways.
Her work reminds us that grief is a universal experienceโone that is deeply personal but best supported within a space of safety, respect and understanding. As we honor Grief Awareness Month and pause to recognize the impact of bereavement care, we celebrate the integrity that Dawn exemplifies in both her actions and intentions.
