Creating Moments of Joy: Eliseo’s Trip to the Ballpark

Eliseo Leon had a wish: to spend one more day at the ballpark surrounded by his family. Eliseo, who once played semi-professional baseball in Mexico as a second baseman and right fielder, carried a lifelong passion for the game. His love for baseball extended beyond his own time on the field, as he coached his son for many years—including during his son’s time playing at Kishwaukee College. For Eliseo, joy could be found simply sitting in a seat overlooking the diamond, watching the game unfold.

The Compassus Living Foundation collaborated with the Kane County Cougars to make his heartfelt wish a reality. The Cougars, generous with their support, donated a party suite for Eliseo and his family to enjoy. The team also arranged for Eliseo to have full access to the field and a golf cart escort.

As part of the experience, Eliseo threw out the first pitch of the game, marking a moment he and his loved ones would never forget. To commemorate the occasion, he was gifted the baseball he pitched along with a second ball signed by every member of the team, displayed in a special custom case. Eliseo also posed for photos with the Cougars’ mascots, Annie and Ozzie Cougar, alongside some of his children who joined him on the field.

With plenty of time to relax and enjoy the day, the family soaked in the contagious excitement of the Cougars’ opening weekend.

The journey to the ballpark wasn’t without its hurdles. A planned party bus ran into logistical issues at the last moment and had to be canceled. In response, the team pivoted quickly, organizing alternative transportation for the family. Directions, parking passes and detailed packets were prepared to ensure their trip went smoothly. Additionally, with some of the allocated transportation budget now available, unlimited Kids’ Zone tickets were provided for the Leon children, leaving them excitedly exploring the experiences waiting for them at the park.

By the end of the day, it was clear that everyone’s teamwork and dedication had culminated in a truly memorable experience. For one day, Eliseo and his family were able to immerse themselves in the spirit of baseball, creating precious memories at the ballpark—a place Eliseo had always loved.
