KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Compassus, a leading national provider of integrated home-based care services, including palliative and hospice care, has opened a new location in Lee Summit, Missouri. The new location expands access to hospice care for patients and families in the Clay, Ray, Lafayette, Johnson, Cass and Jackson counties. The location is now accredited by the state of Missouri and is accepting new patients.
Compassus Kansas City provides high-quality and compassionate hospice care to improve the quality of life for patients facing a life-limiting illness. This comprehensive approach to health care continues to be underutilized throughout the United States. In 2022, 1.72 million Medicare beneficiaries received hospice care for one day or more—a slight increase from 2021, though roughly the same as 2020, which was impacted by COVID-19. Still, care often begins too late: 25% of beneficiaries received hospice care for five days or less, and the median length of stay is just 19 days or less, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).
“Our ability to serve the Kansas City community allows us to increase awareness of the benefits for those with serious and life-limiting illnesses,” said Lori Butterworth, hospice director of clinical services at Compassus. “Our goal is to help patients and families access the right level of care at the right time to support and improve their end-of-life journeys.”
