Singing Her Home: A Final Gift for Faye
At Compassus, every patient’s story is sacred—and sometimes, those stories are best told through more than just words. In Tulsa, OK, our hospice team recently had the privilege of caring for Faye Dotson, a remarkable woman whose grace, humor and love touched everyone she met. Faye was under our hospice care for two years, and we also had the honor of supporting her husband for seven months. Their home became a place where trust and connection bloomed.
It was during an interdisciplinary group meeting that Hospice Social Worker Kristal Malveaux, MSW, shared something extraordinary. “Did you know Dusty can sing?,” she said. Unbeknownst to many, Hospice Registered Nurse Case Manager Dusty Gregory, RNCM, had quietly offered a deeply personal gift to Faye. At her bedside, Dusty sang a song—one he had rewritten to tell Faye’s story. With heartfelt lyrics and a tender voice, he turned music into medicine, honoring Faye’s life in a way words alone never could.
The moment was captured on video by Faye’s daughter, Diane, who later shared it with Kristal. That quiet act of love left an unforgettable impression on the entire team and was later played at Faye’s funeral, as a final tribute to the woman Dusty had so compassionately cared for.
Dusty would never seek recognition for such a moment. But it’s this kind of quiet devotion—this commitment to treating every patient as someone worthy of dignity, comfort and celebration—that defines who we are at Compassus.
Faye’s legacy lives on in the hearts of our Tulsa team. And through a simple song, we’re reminded that hospice is not about the end—it’s about honoring every chapter of life with compassion and grace.
At Compassus, our value is in the compassion and expertise of our teams, which act as an extension of patients’ existing care teams. We believe everyone who interacts with us should experience our individualized Care for who I am philosophy, from the care services we provide to patients and families to how we interact with our partners and one another.
