Honoring Veteran Ronald “Butch” Harley

Our Compassus hospice team in Columbia, MO, had the privilege of honoring Ronald “Butch” Harley with a veteran pinning ceremony surrounded by his loving family.
Butch enlisted in the U.S. Army right out of high school, serving from 1953–1956. His early training took him to three different bases before he was finally stationed in Germany.
Though seasickness made the journey overseas challenging, Butch remembers the beauty of Germany helping him through. His role was to build bridges, a task he recalls with pride, even while battling swarms of mosquitoes.
The ceremony was a meaningful moment for Butch and his family, a small way to recognize the courage and sacrifices he made in service to our country.
Special thanks to Tom Haire for leading this heartfelt pinning. We are grateful to share in honoring our nation’s heroes through the We Honor Veterans program.
