Joe’s Final Lap: A Night at the Races

care moment race

When Joe Sevenich, a Compassus hospice patient in Plover, WI, was asked to share his “one thing,” his answer was instant and full of passion: racing. A proud motorhead with a deep love for car shows and speedways, Joe dreamed of spending one more night at the track.

The Compassus Plover hospice team rallied around his wish—working closely with Golden Sands Speedway in Wisconsin Rapids to bring his dream to life. Joe was honored as the fan of the night and given VIP access, meeting the drivers and riding in the pace car to kick off the race.

Surrounded by more than 20 family members who traveled from across the country and supported every step of the way by his hospice team, Joe’s night at the speedway was filled with joy, adrenaline and unforgettable memories.

This Care Moment is a powerful reminder that hospice isn’t just about comfort—it’s about living fully, right to the very end. Thanks to the dedication of the Compassus Plover team and the generosity of our local community partners, Joe’s “one thing” became a cherished reality.

At Compassus, our value is in the compassion and expertise of our teams, which act as an extension of patients’ existing care teams. We believe everyone who interacts with us should experience our individualized Care for who I am philosophy, from the care services we provide to patients and families to how we interact with our partners and one another.
