Honoring a hero: Recognizing the service of Edward Cates
At Compassus, we believe every veteran’s story deserves to be celebrated, honored and cherished. We had the privilege of paying tribute to Edward Cates, a hospice patient in Colorado Springs, Colorado, whose life exemplifies courage, dedication and service.
Edward, a Vietnam veteran, served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force as an elite parachute jumper. To show our gratitude, we held a pinning ceremony to honor his service. Edward received a certificate, a commemorative pin and a challenge coin, symbols of respect and admiration for his selfless contributions. The honors were presented by Nathan Johnson, a Compassus hospice care consultant and U.S. Air Force servicemember. Nathan’s Air Force connection added special meaning, creating a heartfelt moment of camaraderie and respect.
Compassus is honored to serve those who have served us. Veterans like Edward remind us of the courage and sacrifices that protect our freedoms. Their example inspires us as we strive to bring comfort and dignity to their final chapter.
This ceremony reflects our daily mission to care for patients physically, emotionally and spiritually while celebrating the journeys that define them. To Edward Cates and all veterans we serve: thank you for your sacrifices, dedication and courage. It is our honor to celebrate you.
At Compassus, our value is in the compassion and expertise of our teams, which act as an extension of patients’ existing care teams. We believe everyone who interacts with us should experience our individualized Care for who I am philosophy, from the care services we provide to patients and families to how we interact with our partners and one another.
