Honoring Service, Reflecting with Purpose

This past Memorial Day, our Compassus hospice team in Colorado Springs, CO, hosted three special events to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country—and to recognize the veterans and families we have the privilege to serve today.
Two of the events were led by Nathan Johnson, Hospice Care Consultant and Senior Marketing Growth Team member. A 24-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Nate spoke with heartfelt purpose about the meaning of Memorial Day and the sacrifice it represents. The third event was made possible with the help of Michelle Kaplan, Palliative Nurse Practitioner and current Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, who has served for nearly a decade.
Together, Nate and Michelle helped honor nearly 100 veterans and veteran family members through powerful and personal ceremonies. Their leadership and compassion reflect the values we hold at Compassus—where every moment matters, and every life is honored.
Special thanks to Volunteer Coordinator Nancy Oxenhandler, for helping bring these ceremonies to life and for reminding us of the importance of pausing to remember.
At Compassus, our value is in the compassion and expertise of our teams, which act as an extension of patients’ existing care teams. We believe everyone who interacts with us should experience our individualized Care for who I am philosophy, from the care services we provide to patients and families to how we interact with our partners and one another.
