HOUSTON – Compassus has named Registered Nurse Case Manager Courtney Tuck this year’s Carlos Burruel Compassus Core Values Award winner. Tuck received the company’s highest individual colleague honor during an awards ceremony last month at the Compassus National Leadership Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a colleague with Compassus – Houston at its West Houston location.
Described by her colleagues as fiercely passionate about ensuring the best end-of-life care for patients and families, Tuck lost her home during Hurricane Harvey just a week after returning from a hospice mission trip to South Africa.
“Living in a hotel with no knowledge of where she was going to live next, she spent long days and tireless hours seeing patients in the most difficult of circumstances,” said Darla Clement, executive director of the Compassus – Houston program. “She was determined to ensure all our patients and families were cared for and continued to receive the high-quality care they needed and deserved.”
Her courage and dedication to serving Compassus patients capture the essence of the award, which is given to a colleague who exhibits exemplary personal and professional character and embodies the company’s core values of compassion, integrity and excellence.
“Courtney is the type of person who always puts other people’s needs before her own,” said Clement. “She is an inspirational member of our team and we are so proud to see her recognized for her commendable character.”
The Carlos Burruel Compassus Core Values Award is presented annually to a Compassus colleague “in recognition of a personal and professional character and heart imbued with compassion, integrity and excellence, evidenced in every interaction with patients, families and colleagues, and worthy of universal admiration and respect.”
“I am proud to present the Carlos Burruel Award to a remarkable human being,” said Compassus CEO Jim Deal as he called an astonished Tuck to the stage. She had traveled to New Orleans expecting to deliver remarks to the audience about her hospice mission experience and was overcome with emotion as she accepted the award.
Compassus’ mission is to provide high-quality end-of-life, advanced illness and home health care to patients and their families with compassion, integrity and excellence. The company’s goal is to provide the greatest possible comfort and care in life’s most intimate and challenging moments.
