Local Hospice Volunteer Receives Recognition In Milford, Connecticut

Mishelle Anderson Receives Top Volunteer Recognition for Dedicated Service During National Volunteer Week

MILFORD, Conn. – The Life Choice Hospice program serving Milford and the surrounding areas is proud to recognize Mishelle Anderson and all hospice volunteers during National Volunteer Week April 12-18 for providing companionship, support and dignity to hospice patients and their loved ones. Life Choice Hospice is part of the Hospice Compassus family.

“We are proud to recognize Mishelle Anderson for her efforts to honor life and offer hope to individuals facing a life-limiting illness by supporting them with compassion, integrity and excellence,” said Louise Giardina, Administrator for Life Choice – Greater Connecticut. “Mishelle’s positive attitude and contributions make her a dedicated member of our team, and we are fortunate to have her as a volunteer.”

“Volunteers help make our mission a reality here at Life Choice,” said Dr. Joseph Balsamo, Medical Director of Life Choice – Greater Connecticut. “This National Volunteer Week, we are pleased to honor Mishelle for her interest in doing all she can to improve the lives of our patients with her time and art. She often draws pictures for patients, shows them her sketches, and just sits and holds their hands. She has the ability at a young age to calm our more active patients, make them smile and leave them feeling better than when she arrived. Mishelle is an outstanding volunteer, her character rivals those twice her age, and her talent is unsurpassed. I want to thank her and all of the volunteers on our team for their true dedication to our patients and families.”

According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, there are an

estimated 400,000 trained hospice volunteers providing more than 19 million hours of

service to hospice programs each year. Hospice volunteers add to the care provided by physicians and other hospice staff by bringing companionship to people in the final months and weeks of life, providing respite to families and caregivers, and supporting the administrative responsibilities of hospice programs.

Life Choice – Milford will recognize its volunteers this week by sending specialized chocolate bars with its logo printed and a gift card to each volunteer.
