New Location Expands Local Access to High-Quality Hospice Care and Services
ANN ARBOR, Mich. –Compassus has received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for a new office location in Ann Arbor. The expansion creates additional access to comprehensive and compassionate hospice care for the residents of Ann Arbor and surrounding areas and promotes economic development in the community through the creation of jobs.
“Many communities across the U.S. are underserved when it comes to hospice care,” said Marguerite Linteau, executive director of Compassus – Ann Arbor. “We are committed to filling this void across the country and this new location will deliver the highest quality care and support services to our friends, families, and neighbors here in Ann Arbor.”
The new office will serve patients in Washtenaw County and the surrounding area and will be staffed and supported by an interdisciplinary team of local physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, chaplains, bereavement coordinators, social workers, and community volunteers specializing in hospice and palliative care.
“The final stages of life can be difficult to navigate, both as a patient and as a family member, and our new location allows us to provide them with an added layer of support,” said Tihomir Mihaylov, M.D., medical director at Compassus – Ann Arbor. The office, located at 3300 Washtenaw Avenue, Suite 265, is now open and accepting patients.
Compassus is a nationwide network of community-based hospice programs. The company is dedicated to clinical excellence, compassionate care, and providing comfort and support to patients and their families facing terminal illness. Focusing on the quality of life remaining, Compassus provides effective symptom control and care that focuses on the whole individual – addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
In 2012, Compassus became the first hospice provider in the U.S. to publicly reveal patient quality data, setting the standard by which all U.S. hospice providers are measured. The data shows significant achievements toward establishing and continuing to raise industry benchmarks after a year of reporting quality data at more than 50 community-based programs nationwide.
Compassus will continue to carry out its national quality initiative until 100 percent compliance is achieved through continuous action in Ann Arbor and each of its community-based hospice programs across the U.S.
