Springfield Medical Directors Earn Credentials for Excellence in Hospice Care
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Christopher Billings, D.O., and Charles Watt, D.O., medical directors at Compassus – Springfield, have received the Hospice Medical Director Certified (HMDC ™) Credential from the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board. Hospice medical director certification distinguishes a physician for commitment to clinical and administrative expertise in the care of hospice patients.
In addition to the hospice medical director certification, Dr. Watt is board certified in osteopathic family practice and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in geriatric medicine, decubitus debridement and treatment. The CAQ designation is made jointly by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Geriatric Medicine to recognize excellence in care of the elderly.
Dr. Billings is also board certified in family practice and hospice and palliative care. Dr. Billings’ Hospice and Palliative Medicine certification epitomizes the Compassus initiative to encourage all of its medical directors to become sub-specialty board certified.
“Qualified hospice medical directors are needed now more than ever, and we are fortunate to have two highly accomplished physicians, who show such compassion for our patients and dedication to the highest quality standards,” said Amy Winburn, executive director for Compassus – Springfield.
The Hospice Medical Director Certification Board was established in 2012 to serve as an independent, not-for-profit certifying body to design, implement, and evaluate a certification program for hospice medical directors and other physicians who provide hospice care for patients. The hospice medical director certification conferred by the board is the only certification specifically for hospice physicians primarily employed in this setting.
