Compassus – Mccomb Earns Top Honors In National Awards

MCCOMB, Miss. – The Compassus program serving McComb and the surrounding communities was recently awarded the William H. Frist, M.D. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Quality Patient Care. The award was presented at a national physicians meeting to recognize the local program for outperforming more than 150 other Compassus programs throughout the U.S.

The program, which was started in 1998 and serves Amite, Pike and Walthall counties, was recognized for its commitment to superior quality and outstanding performance in the delivery of hospice care to eligible patients and families. The program achieved the highest marks among all programs in the country in these quality measures:

  • Percent of patients in pain at admission who had their pain controlled to their satisfaction within 48 hours;
  • Percent of families reporting they received the ideal amount of education and preparation regarding their loved one’s disease progression, treatments and medications, and;
  • Percent of patients who had pain above their self-identified threshold at any time during the last week of life.

“Our program continuously strives to meet the medical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families through the delivery of superior hospice care,” said Lucius “Luke” Lampton, M.D., medical director of the program. “This award is a credit to the tireless efforts of our physicians and staff to set the bar ever higher when it comes to treating hospice patients with exceptional care and compassion.”

The Compassus “Triple Crown” awards were established in 2012 to highlight the programs, physicians and staff that best demonstrate the company’s commitment to delivering quality patient outcomes, increasing access to hospice services, and to physician leadership.

The William H. Frist, M.D. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Quality Patient Care is named to honor the achievements of former U.S. Senator Bill Frist, who is not only a physician with innumerable accomplishments credited to him during his medical career, but is also an industryleader who spreads his message regarding the critical role of quality patient care to audiences throughout the world.

“As one of the largest hospice providers in the U.S., Compassus is setting a standard of excellence not only for our sister programs but for all other hospice providers throughout the country, and we are proud to be leading the charge right here in Mississippi toward delivery of the highest quality patient care,” said Glenda Sinclair, executive director of Compassus – McComb.
