palliative care discussion

Palliative care helps people with a serious illness feel better; physically, emotionally and spiritually. It can improve quality of life by helping doctors and other caregivers understand a patient's concerns at the moment and goals for care in the future.

An example is managing pain that may come with a life-limiting illness. Because everyone deals with pain differently, we listen to patients and work with their doctor to help manage pain at the right level and at the right time.

Palliative care offers relief from the symptoms of a disorder or the side effects of medical treatment such as:

  • Pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue and sleep problems
  • Constipation
  • Nausea and loss of appetite
  • Anxiety and depression

Palliative care can begin at any time after during a serious illness. Medicare, Medicaid and some private insurance policies include palliative care payment benefits, if the patient meets criteria.

We're here to listen and help you find the right care. Our experience can also help you navigate referrals, including Medicare and insurance issues.
