James A. (Jim) Deal founded Compassus in 2006 and serves as Chairman of the Board. In his more than 40 years of experience in health care services, he has been a leader in growth and innovation across the industry, applying his diverse experience to transform health care delivery for the patients and families Compassus serves. Today, Compassus employs more than 6,000 colleagues who provide a range of home health, palliative and hospice care services to benefit patients and families through more than 200 locations serving 30 states.
Deal began his career as a hospital CEO and regional executive at an investor-owned hospital company, after which he led the creation of a national network of diabetes treatment centers and was instrumental in leading, developing and operating the first 16 at-risk disease/care management contracts in the U.S. He also shepherded the growth of a regional high-end medical imaging business into a multi-regional provider and led the restructuring, refinancing and growth of an organization focused on high quality medical care and attendant cost of treating the elderly.
Deal earned a Master of Business Administration in health services administration from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Western Illinois University. He formerly served on the boards of directors for Envision Healthcare, a leading national physician services and office-based ambulatory surgery provider, and MedCath, the leading operator of cardiac specialty hospitals.
